Flash of Invisible Text (FOIT)
The browser hides the text completely (blocks rendering) while the custom font is downloading. If the
download takes too long or fails, the text is eventually shown in a fallback font. Protects original
design but hurts perceived load time.
Flash of Unstyled Text (FOUT)
The browser renders the text immediately using a fallback system font. Once the custom font is
downloaded, it swaps the font out. Great for perceived performance, but causes layout shifts.
